Sir.
I have the honor to state that Mr. Hanna has reported & entered upon his duties as teacher at Columbus. Your letter of the 3d inst leaving the retention of Miss Mathews as assistant, discretionary with me is also at hand. For this I thank you, because I felt that had the evidence been sufficient against her to justify it I should without delay had requested her removal. Notwithstanding, she has been [[?]] there is not a particle of evidence against her, which would amount to establishing her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Her education is a peculiar one - & Ill venture to say strange as it may seem, that all those who have laid on Complaints against her, are open patrons of Mrs Perry, a notorious character
