Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Marshall Texas. Sept. 25. 1868.

Joseph Welch Esq.
Supt. of Education Bureau R&F
Austin Texas.

Dear Sir,

Your communication of the 17th inst. has been received, and in reply I shall do all in my power to obtain a boarding place for the lady mention, but doubt very much my being successful, if I am I shall write you again.

I have been visiting the Schools here, and am not at all satisfied with the place rented by the Bureau, it is a miserable terrible down old concern, not worth more than three months rent (or $60) So full of holes and openings that it would be impossible for a school to keep running. Steady during a cold spell, and as the building is about to change hands, which will virtually amend the present Contract, I am now endeavouring to get a far more comfortable house
