better suited in every respect for our school purposes, and at the same rent that is paid for the present building.

I am an old and strong advocate of education for the colored race believing firmly that in it alone is their only and sure hope of attaining that elevation which they so anxiously seek and which will make them good and useful citizens.

I labored hard for this educational advancement in Arkansas, and am proud to say that I left a memorial of my work in the City of Helena, in the shape of a good substantial school house.

I shall take great pleasure in aiding and assisting you in your labors to the fullest extent of my ability, but I have strong prejudice to contend with in this section of country, altho, I presume no worse here than in other portions of the state.
