Yours of the 1st inst. just received. A school for Colored Children was opened in this place on Decr. 1st. 68. by a very respectable young colored man named Thos. E. Younger, who has now nineteen scholars. I think he will succeed in obtaining a good school and that he is qualified to instruct, in the elementary branches of Education, fully. I have written Capt. Roberts yesterday for authority to rent the building in which school is being taught, so that Mr. Younger may be encouraged to continue teaching.

He has supplied himself with benches &c. so that it is not necessary for the Bureau to provide
