Genl J. J. Reynolds

On the 13th of April W. L. Stevenson as Bureau agt was in this place for the purpose of looking after the educational interest of the colored people. He first objected to the high rent paid for the house now occupied [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] by the school. The rent paid is fifteen Dollars per month, & he ordered another house repaired for the school that could be rented for five Dollars per month & to have ready by the 1st of May which has been done, but the school mistress objects to teaching in the house prepared & has not moved the school into it. This place was selected as a suitable place by the Bureau Agt. He stated to us that if we would procure the ground in that neighborhood & would try to raise the money to build, he would use his influence to get the government to furnish two hundred dollars to assist in putting it up. Accordingly we raised House on the [[?]]
