I transfered the check No 29 to John Chesnut Banker Springfield Ill on the 10 Inst for $20 to which bank I am indebted  If it should be lost the Disbursing Officer will send a duplicate to Springfield Ill  Mr Mc Cain and I have succeeded in establishing a Sabbath School and have it well organized with Teachers but Sabbath showed encouraging indications for success by the number present  but are now suffering for the lack of primary Sabbath School books
I have made an appeal for books to the Methodist Church in Springfield Ill and expect a response but may not reach here till after [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] my present term is expired viz 1st July if not reengaged I feel it my duty to solicit a donation of primary sabbath school books from the Government to enable Teachers to form classes and work efficiently in S. School it is lamentable that after so many years of Government support for educating this people there are such a number which have not availed themselves of these priviledges If you have Alphabet cards and easy lessons for the primary department especially for Sabbath School to hang up and teach those lessons in the Lancasterian System It would save this people considerable expence for Books. Since the first step was taken here toward purchasing land for school purposes I see clearly that our Methodism cannot thrive associated with the Baptist Church as we are here preaching in the same Building every alternate Sabbath and they taking every opportunity to make an
