School Desks.- The County Superintendent has a specimen of a school desk and seat from Andrew's & Co's manufactory in Chicago, that is such a decided improvement on anything of the kind we have hitherto seen, that it seems as if they must come into general use. We would ask all officers of school districts in the country to call and examine the specimen. Comfort and convenience must be studied and carefully observed by the patrons of the schools, and in the matter of seating a school house, the very latest and best improvements should be selected.

Galveston, Texas, Septr 3d, 1869.

I took a trip to Houston, yesterday & found the house, nearly up to the floor of 2d story. The work strikes me as being very good. The windowsills are of iron - which no doubt are better than wood - ; they are however not well set or are warped themselves, which makes them not as sightly as wood. I presume this is one of the differences in the specifications - from the Galveston House. Work has stopped. I saw Beering's brother, & he is harping on the old tune money - I heard of the brick man's taking up the strain, so that I was not particular in hunting either party up. In a conversation with Mr. Tracy - he said, the house would tumble down in six or eight years
