Dear General:
The telegraphic acceptance of my resignation came to hand this morning. It leaves a doubt upon my mind however, whether Mr. Bartholomew is appointed to succeed me or not, though I feel that it cannot be well otherwise - as I do feel that I am entitled to that amt. of commendation at your hand's - & more.
I should like if an Assistant be appointed or Clerk, that Mr. J. O. Stevenson, of Galveston be the man. He has taught for two years under the auspices of the A.M.A. & for is school at $25 per mo - gave up a position worth $1200, per annum. He is a capably conscientious Christian man. My Brother will indorse him to the fullest extent. By giving him this temporary appointment
