Even our pretended Republicans in this region are inclined to timidity in interesting themselves in the Sunday School, although they are apparently zealous christians in the rebel churches.

A respectable female teacher with some outside assistance would be the most appropriate for this place. She may be ostracised, socially, but if she should happen to be the right kind, she would suffer no material loss from that source, as the social atmosphere here, might safely at the highest, be put in the Comparative degree.

I have been instructing in six classes, I have some excellent readers - the "5th class" numbering about 12. some fourteen or fifteen can write a bold, free hand; four can write correctly being experts at spelling, punctuation, &c. 

An interesting class in Geography equal to almost any class that have noticed in white schools in Texas, numbers 14. six can parse, syntactically, with good general ideas of the relation of words and sentences.
