Rev. Joseph Welch
Supt Schools Txs [[?]]
Austin Texas
Rev. and Dear Sir

Enclosed you will find a Copy of Proceedings of certain Citizens of both Races of Brenham in reference to establishing a school for Freed people. The Trustees elected at this meeting are among our best Citizens. They are Nelson Kavanaugh Freed. H.E. Sockets Sectg of Treasuries Judge O.H.P. Garrett. Rev. Martin V. Smith C.R. Breedlove Esq among the whites and Wiley Hubach [[?]] and Mah. Parker. among the colored people. This movement is prompted by a series on the park of the people of this City to do something by personal and [[?]] aid to promote the education of the colored children in our midst and is promoted by the cleanest and never indisputable evidence of the entire failure of the late teaching among our colored people to discharge faithfully its duties of their mission
