Supt. Education,

Dear Sir-
Your letter came duly to hand, and in reply can say - That I learn there are but two schools, among the freedmen. The Teacher, of one - a White man. - S.W. Clarke - tells me that he has 13. pupils - the Other - a White woman Teacher, has from Eighteen to twenty pupils, - There is great room for larger schools and better teachers; but the freedmen - or most of them are poor, too poor to school their Children - besides, there are some whose parents are dead, or unknown The freedmen of this County, take them en mass, are about the best set perhaps in the state. -

The female Teacher is by the name of H.L. Vivian. -

Respectfully Yours,
A.M. Wigginton Sr.
