Bryan June 12/1870

General:

I have the honor to transmit herewith the deed for lot at Calvert. A proper blank was sent to Mr. Wilson to have filled up- for record. It is due to the colored people to say that this lot was purchased by them out of funds raised by subscription at a public meeting. Mr. Wilson had a contract & pledges made form - nor were any asked. His language is unimpeachmable. Is the clause irrespective of race or color &c vital since the adoption of the 15th Amendment. The Supreme Court of Texas has decided that a deed is valid without a seal or the embodyment therein of the words "agree or" for seals If it be important that the deed at Waco [[strikethrough]] be [[/strikethrough]] should have that clause in it there will be no trouble in having the alteration made. Please not let that be an obstacle in the way of approving contract. The deed is an old one.

Very Respectfully
