Dear Mr. Layton:

I wish to acknowledge receipt with thanks of your letter of August 31, to Mr. Germain Seligman, enclosing bill of lading in triplicate for the bag and case which are going forward by "S.S. Fort Townshend".

As requested I am enclosing herewith his check No. 757 on the Empire Trust Company, New York, in the sum of $2.75 (Two75/100 dollars), covering your expenses in reference to the above.
