September 16th., 1941.

Dear Edouard Jonas:

Your very kind lines of August 15th., arrived in New York while I was away on my vacation and that is why you did not receive an earlier acknowledgement of it.

As soon as I got back I turned over the Quillard to Mr. Lowy as per your request. However, a few days later a certain party came in who asked for an Eighteenth Century French painting and from his description your's should have been the ideal one - but if you still remember about the art business, as soon as I produced the painting and had it returned here, the desire simmered down. I am nevertheless keeping the painting here for another few days and if by next week I feel that there is nothing further to do with this man I shall definitely turn it back to Lowy.

In the meantime I am sending you herein a clipping which I received from France with others and which I thought would interest you and remind you of the "good old days".

I am glad to read of your success in the oil fields, for which I would almost say I envy you - were it not for the fact that it entails living in Wichita, which I fear must have been as blazing a h.... in the Summer!

With best regards,

Yours very sincerely,

(Germain Séligmann)
