At Columbus I called the freedmen together and addressed them on Sabbath last + found about 50 persons who will attend a night school and as many more who will send their children to the day school 
The Lutheran church edifice can be used for a school room at a small rent, or a two story house can be rented for that purpose at $16.75 per month of the landlord of the National Hotel. The teacher can obtain loan by applying to Capt Merril Post Commander who will secure a home in the house Judge Dewsese I informed them that they might expect school on the 12th inst xxxxxxx

At Alleyton 3 miles this side of Columbus there could be a small school established but no room can be secured the Col Preacher is teaching some to pupils + also building a log house 16x20 for the use of the school.
