STATE OF TEXAS.
[[strikethrough]] Galveston [[/strikethrough]] Beaumont Texas Mar. 30th, 1866.

Col. W H Sinclair
A.A. Genl.

I have learned from Sheriff Travis (who has but lately returned from Liberty) that a good school for Freedmen could be started at that place and that a number of Citizens are anxious to promote the matter by lending their assistance to its establishment. There are not sufficient scholars here to employ two teachers and would recommend that one be sent to Liberty. As Mr Shelby is absent it will be necessary for some one to attend to the matter, also a few soldiers-
