Houston Texas April 23rd 1866 E.M. Wheelock Supt Schools State of Texas My Dear Sir I have just arrived in town and find your note requesting me to go to Millican I will do so Tomorrow and stay there until something is done I am happy to inform you that I find all the schools I have visited in the interior doing finely Miss Campbell's school at Austin fine & large She wants nothing I spent one week ago yesterday at Bastrop with Rogers & gave him a good start also spoke to the Freedpeople at La Grange & I believe with good effect Yesterday I got a very large crowd of Freedmen out at Brenham and had a good time & encouraged both teacher & people At Round Top on road from Brenham & La Grange a teacher would do well & board can be obtained at a German Bakery School house could be had easy & 40 or 50 day scholars The white people are going to raise
