Thare could be schools one at J J Smith for me of some 60 pupils one at Kimble say 40 and one at Dyers Mill of the same and one at Peoria and Fort Grayham, houses and Boarding can be had at all these places if teachers can be secured and protected Boarding can be had at from 10 to 12 $ per month, Female Teachers would be least liable to be disturbed as teachers. I think no one up here will undertake to teach the Blacks it is so unpopular and dangerous. A small detachment of troops say 20 now stationed at Fort Grayham or Dyers Mill would protect the schools and afford great assistance to the Bureau Officers in the section, in fact the Bureau had as will be dispensed with here without a permanent detachment of troops as it is 45 miles to the nearest troops at Waco and but a small company thare, with a little assistance schools can be started and protected, once underway for three months thare will be no kneed of protection as in that time the people will see that the President cannot restore slavery if he wants to.
