Sir

I have the honor to report the following information in relation to Schools for Freedmen in my District. I have one school in LaGrange, taught by Saml. Lea (White). Mr. Lea was appointed by E. M. Wheelock Superintendent of Schools for the State, Feby. 25th, 1866. He is a native of Louisiana and for many years has been a teacher in that State and in this. The School has been in operation about two weeks and we have in attendance 28 Scholars which I think will be considerably increased during the month. Much difficulty was experienced in getting a building but at last we Succeeded in getting a Log House which (though a poor Substitute for a School House) we are now using. Arrangements are being made for building a House which will be done as Soon as the necessary funds can
