Office Sub A.C. B. of R.F. & A. Lds La Grange Texas May 8th 1866 Brevet Col. W.H. Sinclair Asst Adjt Genl B. of R.F. and A. Lds State of Texas. Sir I have the honor to submit the following as the condition of School for Freedmen in this district for the Month of April 1866. As yet there is but one and that in La Grange- At last report we had 28 scholars-day-now we have 35 day scholars and 27 night scholars showing an increase of 7 in daytime and 27 at night. The school is doing well, but the building in which it is held is not a good one, and efforts are being made to collect funds to build a School House in which I think we will succeed. Very Respectfully Your obt Servt J. Johnson Capt 114th U.S.C.I and Sub A.C. B. of R.F. & A.Lds
