My knowledge of the country embraced in this and the surrounding counties is most minute.  It is or will be difficult to establish schools-such as are intended to be established-but not more than merely difficult.

A mixture of firmness, tact, and address, is all that is necessary to enable one to succeed; but without that mixture embodied in the same person, it will be difficult.  Board would average fifteen dollars, with gold at $1.25.  In this town I cannot get a bite for myself or clerks for less than thirty.

Any one coming here to represent the school department of the Bureau, can get from me the most private information as to persons and locality.

It might however be necessary I should go round with him or them.  I have long looked for a move in this direction, and wonder why it has not been pressed.  The Freedmen are ripe for it, and it should not longer be delayed.
