1st there are but 4 schools organized in this County vis one taught by myself on my plantation. This was the 1st one organized in the County, As yet it has only been taught at night. 2nd Wm Goodin (for) at Wharton about 50 scholars this teacher was assigned here by EM Wheelock. 3rd Martha Cloman (for) twelve scholars on RH Horton Plantation 2 miles from the town of Wharton. 4th Harriet Smith (for)
thirty scholars on Maj. Dennis Plantation one mile  from the town.
Reports a great thirst for learning but there are no houses unless they can be built.
