Extract from Report on Schools for Month of August 1867 by Capt Edward Miller Sub Ap Com

Reports one at Victoria; Mrs S.C. Harris Teacher, who has at present; about 40 children being a redirection of 35 since last month. but as this is the cotton picking season. the loss is easily accounted for. the children who attend school however are improving rapidly. most of them can read and write pretty well,
The teachers are hardly able to support them selves + pay $20 per month board and sent of school house.
