I have the honor to report that there has been established in this State up to this time Sixteen (16) schools for Freedmen under the charge of Ten (10) teachers  the pupils children and adults number Ten hundred and forty one (1041)  Six (6) of the schools are night Schools and ten (10) are day schools

They are all self sustaining. Arrangements have been made whereby the services of about Thirty (30) teachers will be obtained and that number of Schools will be organized as soon as the neccessary School Books arrive from New York which have been purchased there and are expected in a few days

Lieut E.M. Wheelock Superintendent of Schools has been detained in New Orleans on business connected with this Bureau in the State of Louisiana; his arrival is however daily expected when a more general organization of Schools will take place
