June 1st 1866

Supt. Wheelock,

The school has increased constantly from the beginning. The colored people all seem anxious to have it go on. The school has been very small this week. It is the blackberry season and very likely some are kept out to gather berries to sell though there is a great deal of sickness here at present. Today I had of twenty scholars and three went home sick. I have had chills and fever since Sunday. Yesterday was the worst day so far - I was very much fatigued and had a high fever when I dismissed school and lay down to rest on the bench, for two hours ( it is much more comfortable when my bedding place for a sick person) and I grew so much worse I was obliged to send for help to get home. I did not expect to be able to be in school today.
I have given up the night school until I am better and I suppose I ought to rest entirely.
