Richmond July 1st 1866

Lt. E. M. Wheelock
Superintendent Schools etc
Galveston

Sir

I have the honor of reporting to you once more from this is God forsaken town our school is you see on the decrease the school across the river has hurt us very much and so many say they cant get money &c and the citizens are becoming so rough that the Freedmen are afraid of them and some will not send their children on that account.
The bridge is up and I hope Capt L.C. Sloan will brake up that school if not my school is so small we will have to leave because it will not support us. They have 40 scholars over there.
I shall try this week and start [[strikethrough]]another[[/strikethrough]] a night school,
