September 11th 1866

Rev. E Wheelock
Sir
My report of August is certainly not the most favorable. But it is as expected
You see by report that the numbers have decreased greatly. I am not discouraged, greatly, for I know the cause - harvesting.
And the month of September will tell no better, October may be more favorable. We trust it may.
I have be regular in the sending of my reports. I hope you receive them as sent
In this I enclose ten dol's ($10) can do no better now. Am grateful for you patience in waiting so long on my time I cannot force the Freedmen in their payments when I know they are waiting for their crops to bring them in the needed supply
Most Respectfully
S.E. Harris
