Remarks: I opened my school for freedmen on the 26th of August, in a neat comfortable school-house located in Smith's Bend, on the Brazos in Bosque County. I looked for my pay for tuition from the freedmen up to the last of September. I have had a constant attendance of 27 students from the beginning except a loss of four days from sickness of one of the students. There are about 150 colored people in the bounds of my school, who seem very anxious to learn; and, but for the needed labour for support, the school would be very large. I shall open a night school soon. They look for the support of the school by the Government from the first of October. They have occasional preaching by colored men. October 31st 1867
