on Education of Freedmen and Refugees in 29th Sub-District, State of Texas in charge of Bvt Major Clarence Manck USA for the Month of August 1868, [in accordance with order contained in Circular No.5, Bureau Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands.]

2. Whole number of Refugee or freedman's Schools in the District? 5 Day? 4 Night? 0 Sabbath? 1

3. Location of Schools? 4 in Austin, Travis County - Texas - one in Georgetown, Texas.

4. Whole number of teachers? 5 White? 3 Colored? 2

5. Names and post-office address of Day-School Teachers?  J.G. Billingsly, Joseph Burk, Amanda Robinson c. and Isabella Shaw c. Austin Texas, Julia O'Connor Georgetown Williamson County

6.  Whole number of School-houses for Freedman in your District?  4 Their condition, capacity, value and by whom owned?  In Austin, 1st The Foundry owned by the State of Texas, capacity 200. 2d. Church col'd people Austin capacity 500. 3d. Church Joseph Weight capacity 200. $20.00 rent paid by Mr Billingsly - In Georgetown Williamson Co Tex. 1st col'd people of Georgetown, capacity 100.

7.  Number of your visits to Schools?  3 Day? 3 Night?- Sabbath? -

8.  Number of educational meetings held by you during the month? - Where? -

9.  Number and names of places,now destitute, in which Day-School might be organized?  Circleville Williamson Co Texas Webberville, Travis County - perhaps other places

10.  Number of pupils (estimated) who would attend such Schools?  At Circleville from 40 to 75.

11.  Amount which would probably by raised by Freedmen, for school purposes, in each destitute neighborhood?  At Circleville probably $200.00

12. What efforts are you making to secure the support of schools by pupils, parents, boards of education, or State government?  Efforts are being made to induce freedmen to purchase land for school purposes in all destitute places.
  
13. Whole number of additional School-Houses, for Freedmen, now wanted in your Sub-District. Unknown

14. Could you organize your Sub-District into School Districts, each with a School Committee pledged to carry on schools therein?  Probably

15. To what extent would help from without be needed in such cases?  In cases where the school house is the property of the freedpeople the school will be self-supporting

16. What is the public sentiment as to the education of the Freedmen and poor Whites?  Hostile as witnessed by the burning of the school house at Circleville on the 28th June, & the impossibility of obtaining respectable boarding places for the teachers at either Austin or Georgetown.

17. Are Night-Schools for Adults needed in your District?  Yes  In what way could they be carried on?  On either a free system the expenses being met by voluntary subscription or as per Bureau Regulations

18. What more can this Bureau do for educating the children of Refugees (or Poor Whites)?  No Suggestions

19. How long will northern charitable aid be needed for Freedmen and Refugee Schools of your District?  Probably for one year
