Joseph Welch Esq
Supt. of Education
Austin, Txs.

Sir,
Permit me to call your attention to your letter to me dated Sept 3. in which you promised to "act in refernce to aid, as soon as "you ascertain what can be done in the school". I forwarded you particulars a month since & as yet have rcd no reply. There are [underscore] now [/underscore] about [underscore] sixty five [/underscore] children in attendance and of which number there is best about a dozen that can [underscore] pay [/underscore] - what is to be done? The teacher cannot live upon what she now receives from the school and I have only succeeded in housing her in charge by assuring her that you had informed me that her salary would be made up to her by the Govt.

Please answer by return mail & oblige
