1. Amount of tuition paid during the month. 0. To be paid 15th Oct, 1868

2. Remarks. This school was opened under adverse circumstances. It was difficult to find a house, and the one occupied now has no windows. - and is without a floor. Freedmen in that settlement are too poor to build a house. No rent is charged. It is on a farm belonging to Capt Jim Schott an impregnable rebel, the farm is abandoned by him, and left in charge of the freedmen that live upon the place. I do not see my way clear for a school larger than this house can be had, which will be until next year, and by that time something may turn up to aid in building house The freedmen exhibit energy and interest beyond their means at present and proper encouragement will go on with the good work begun
