on Education of Freedmen and Refugees in 29th Sub-District, State of Texas in charge of Brevet Major Clarence Mauck for the Month of September 1868, [in accordance with the order contained in Circular No. 5, Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands.]

8. Number of educational meetings held by you during the month? -- Where? --

9. Number and names of places, now destitute, in which Day-Schools might be organized? Circleville Williamson Co Tex Webberville, Travis Co. Texas, and perhaps other places.

10. Number of pupils (estimated) who would attend such Schools? At Circleville probably 50 or 60

11. Amount which would probably be raised by the Freedmen, for school purposes, in each destitute neighborhood? Unknown

12. What efforts are you making to secure the support of schools by pupils, parents, boards of education, or State government? Efforts are being made to induce freedmen to purchase land and commence school houses in all destitute places — and the formation of Plantation schools where [[strikethrough]] where [[/strikethrough]] the schollars and teacher could work during busy seasons, reccommended.

13. Whole number of additional School-Houses, for Freedmen, now wanted in your Sub-District. Unknown

14. Could you organize your Sub-District into School Districts, each with a School Committee pledged to carry on schools therein? probably

15. To what extent would help from without be needed in such cares? In cases where the Schoolhouse is the property of the freed people and the teacher col'd they would be self supporting

16. What is the public sentiment as to the education of the Freedmen and poor Whites? Public sentiment hostile the education of the freedmen — what little sentiment there is on the subject is in the favor in the education of Poor Whites

17. Are Night-Schools for Adults needed in your District? Yes  In what way could they be carried on? Either by the Bureau sysem or by voluntary contributions

18. What more can this Bureau do for educating the children of Refugees (or Poor Whites)? No suggestions

19. How long will northern charitable aid be needed for Freedmen and Refugee Schools of your District? Probably for one year
