1. Amount of tuition paid during the month.

2. Remarks. Rev. Joseph Welch Supt.
Department Education.
In compliance with your Department, I forward report for January. Proficiency for Jan. is very creditable as many of the Female scholars have taken an active part in Arithmetic - also Completed spellings in Websters. Among some of those young women are many, who in a few months will be competent to dissect the shades or the Majestic avenues common to the square Root - I have discussed with excellent students, & sat personally with the same, but a few of these excels any of whom I yet met with a Division of Speech can be recited with quick time, twos and threes & fours the same, and up to fives and sixes with inconceivable clarity.

Some among the pupils from the County are absent these days cropping, as a call was made by the Parents, but tell me in a month will be on hand. Your Epistle and Disbursing officers came in a copulative conjunction mean together-

Brother Webster dined today with me, came from St. Marcus. Have rented the school room again till 15th March.

I paid him in advance I paying one Dollar. It is my presumption that if we erect the new school house in this Village that an excellent Institute can be established. This is not smoke as excellent zed is to be found among many of our friends, besides they will inculcate morality at all costs among their families.

I must confess that a stubborn Secesh treachery lives in the minds of those slave-erats, as it is obvious to my observations, as well as manifest to my experience from many sources -

Turn,
