A few evenings ago while prayers were saying, a set of rascals came around and fired a volley of stones against the room, but were driven off by a young man, a son to one of the preachers. He fired two shots when all retreated, I was not among them, but was told by him at school. Am deliberating with respect to this, that any future renewal of this, I will approve the Commanding officer of San Antonio. Think this would be wise, if such presents itself. Nothing is said or done to imitate those young ill bedfellows, but grudges the young Freedmen their chances.

SCHOOL REPORT
Of Seguin
County of Guadeloupe
For the month of January 1869
Hugh Ames
Teacher

I am very desirous in doing all that can be done in letters for those young Freedpeople as it is a very worthy & meritorious action - I do not make very much over a living, as I pay rent, owing to this obstinate old chap with whom, am associated.

Respectfully,
H. Ames
Seguin
