1. Amount of Tuition paid during the month. $9.50

2. Remarks.
There were 20 Scholars added by Mr King feeling himself under rent for the School house in January I allowed him to come as asst Teacher and at the 1st Feby augmented to 91 Pupils (From some cause, I think the School had previously been left to the couloured assistant as the highest reading classes could not read the easiest sentences without a succession of repetitions, but I was beginning to feel a degree of satisfaction with the general proposals of the School in February when it was again torn asunder by party feeling and Jealousy Miss O Connor at the close of the last month drained of quite a few of the females And Mr McKane quite a number of the smaller Boys However it is increasing in number daily notwithstanding the inclemant weather for the last few days some days 5 new scholars are added whom I never saw before

If it could be done consistently it would be a great Boon to this people if the amount generally paid for school rent to the southern people who never allow a cent to benefit the coulored race could be paid for this building and the amount appropriate to allow free Scholars equal to that amount who are unable to pay for their tuition I am informed that nearly half the children and adults of this city are suffering in this way through poverty
