1. Amount of Tuition paid during the month, $12.00

2. Remarks: The School House is entirly unfitted for such purposes there being no facilities for warming it when the weather is cold. There are no desks for the pupils to write upon. I have never in my life before been in a place where such poor advantages for education were given to children. Our School House is not fit for a respectable House to be. The children very generally can read & write proper care would very soon compare favorably with any others in the State. There are about 200 Scholars in this locality that ought to be in school can not something be done for the Freedmen here in relation to building them a school House. Miss OConnor has a small School here but she is not doing the people justice in her moral conduct. I shall try & remain here until May if I can you se the small salary will not more than pay board.
Very Respectfully
J.H. Townsend.
