Fred Johnson, Freedman, complains at this office that some three weeks ago he loaned you his cow & calf and that since that time one Tim Armstrong did take said cow & calf while in your possession and drive her & calf or cause them to be driven to his own house. This therefore is to inform you that in compliance with my instructions I will on Saturday the 16th inst at 10 am investigate this case, and request that you appear at this office at the time stated,

Fred Johnson Freedman, complains at this office, that you have in your possession his cow & calf, and that a day in two ago. When he went to your place, for said cow & calf, you refused to deliver them to him, and that you at the same time threatened to whip or shoot him. This is therefore to inform you that in compliance with my instructions, I will on Saturday May 16 1868 at 10 AM investigate this case, and if possible settle the same, otherwise refer the case with any evidence you may have to offer, to the proper Military Authority, I will hear any evidence you may wish to introduce on Saturday the 16th inst at 10 A.M.
