Sir
Your letter of the 2d inst, I sent the Sheriff of your County the original affidavit purporting to have been taken before Amzi Ford c.c.c. by Wm. M. Lockart. The sheriff I have the doubt will allow Mr Ford to look at it. And if it is not genuine or a fraud, I would like Mr Ford to make affidavit to that effect and send to this office, also tell Rhyme to comply with the letter I wrote him dated June 23d 1868 and forward the affidavit to this office so that I can forward them to Head Quarters. I have written to the Sheriff to return the papers in this case to this office, if he can not comply with the order, stating the cause of his not doing so. Do you know any thing which property Lockart has, and what business he is engaged in?
Very Respectfully
Your Obedt. Servt.
