Colonel, I have the honor to enclose herewith for expenditure of Stationery for June 1868, which please file with my returns of Stores pertaining to the Bu R.F & A.L for June. Superintendent of Education Raleigh N.C Dear Sir I hope the petition herewith of the colored people of Dallas Gaston Co N.C will meet with your approval, and that they be allowed $8~ pr month from 15 July for Rent of School house. I have made inquiry about Mr S.E. Groner (white) and do recommend him as a Teacher both as to competency and respectability James Rhyme (colored) who has been appointed 85 to receive the money from the Bureau by the School Committee I am personally acquainted with and do recommend him as worthy of the trust placed in him by the committee. There is no school for the colored people in Gaston County, and without assistance from the Bureau this one cannot be started, as the colored people are unable to do so. N.C Sir, I inclose herewith a petition which have signed in two places by three or four of your best colored men, or the School Committee, and send it to Rev FA Fiske Superintendent of Schools for the Freedmen in Raleigh, he has charge of the Schools, and is the proper person to ask for the allowance of $8 per month. I have no doubt that he will allow if, as he has for other counties. If you do not hear from it soon after you mail it, write him another letter to know if the allowance of $8 will or will not be made. If the money is allowed, a report will be sent to the Teacher to fill out every month as to the number of Scholars &c. Also a blank will be sent
