I am sending along Linas letter I received this week Thursday Ma

Stoughton 28th 1940 January

Dear Doris

The cold spell seems broken, this morning the weather is a little warmer only 15˚ on the porch at 9 O’clock we have had very sunny days all through our zero weather, so thats [[that's]] one good thing & the nice good moon shines out at night. so I don't have to light up my room, when I go up to bed to undress. being in front of the house, usually the light in my room shows off to coasters on the strut & neighboring people.

She has been to church to day but didn't go down to choir rehearsal Friday night, it was so cold, not many did go. Mrs Swanson she did not go. she was telling what Jackie McGarvey said, it seems that June Swansons [[Swanson's]] boy had been taken up for stealing here in town & when the trial came off, he was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of years. so Jackie spoke up and said that it was natural to the family to be that way. & she said that he shouldn't say much for his grand mother McGarvey was one of the biggest thieves this town ever knew. Jackie was always a little sneak. & Mary his mother was the making of Pete people say. its a wonder they weren't all thieves they way they were brought up. their father was to all one could say a good honest man & was well liked.
