Stoughton January 10th 1945

Dear Doris

It is pleasant & our snowstorm of Tuesday cleared off last night & early this morning the temperature was down to zero on the porch. & it remains cold throug the day. its [[t's]] very sunny & it seemed good to see the stars when I got up at midnite [[midnight]] & looked out of my chamber window, but the heat had gone on, so my room was quite comfortable.

We got our oil tank filled up yesterday & Murphy said tell Mrs Holmes not to worry, she can have oil whenever I have it. & our coal bin is also filled up, so we feel we are well provided for. lots of people cant [[can't]] get it. but there is something in the way one approaches him we think. Mrs Barry always waives at him when she goes past his office & then again we have always traded with him (old customers) & Pa was always friendly with Coney his father.

I have had Mrs Barry call up Martha Bullock & she has had a long talk with her. it seems that Helen the daughter, has been to a hospital to a specialist & has been under observation, she came home at christmas & they had a turkey for their dinner but she hasn't
