20° Thursday morn

Stoughton December 18th 1944

Dear Doris

It is very sunny today but cold & windy 30° on the porch early this morning. I was sitting up in my chamber when the sun rose & wasn't the sky beautiful, all the colors of the rainbow. it has been very windy now for two or three days. the radio here said that in Virginia they were hard hit with lots of damage. but it did not last long. we had the windy night here and thats [[that's]] what brough [[brought]] us this cold weather after a stormy night & cloudy afternoon

Mrs Barry has gone to Boston to day to meet some of her old friends who were very anxious to meet her & was glad it had cleared so she could go with more comfort. I dont expect to see her 'till after dark this evening & I may go off to bed & leave the night lock on put the key between the screen & outside doors. its nice to be alone but as night approaches its lonesome. she has sent off over 60 Xmas cards & is going to send more when she gets the envelopes.

Mrs Bruce & her dog have just been over to pay her rent. she is very prompt & a good hearted woman whose husband dont appreciate her. we never
