We make up a fire cloudy days in the little stove & it heats the house so much that the oil dont go on 'till some time in the morning then we need it in the bath & in my front chamber where I now sleep, that is the warmest room in the house & its warm to dress in.

Mrs Ballantine celebrated her 85th birth day last Wednesday. we were invited but I didnt go. Mrs Barry did it was rainy. the Toomeys gave her a nice boquet [[bouquet]] of roses (Mary & Frank). they had a large birthday cake made by the girl who lives done to the Dykeman house.

I am not doing much for Xmas things are too high & scarce & besides no way of going to get anything I hope Carolin Schieber dont send anything. Your letter she wrote you was quite interesting. this one you sent in the last letter. she is a good hearted woman. and guess is very much alone in the world.

I didn't have any flea bites after the cat went home. he didn't stay much in the house you remember, he is a great family pet but the fleas seem to like him theres [[there's]] a good big piece of him to bite. glad you rest up occasionally. think of the way you worked last summer cutting down trees & cleaning the chamber you shouldnt [[shouldn't]] do so well I must stop now.

love Ma
