Stoughton Nov 19th 1944

Dear Doris

This is a lovely sunny day & not too cold. I have done my weekly wash & clothes are nicely drying She has just returned from church & we are to have our dinner of baked beans & a roast of lamb & pickle lilly which she made out of one green tomatoes. we have some more green ones in the storeroom & ripe ones in the closet. she may get around to make up some more pickle lilly out of the smaller ones. we like it to eat on meats & beans. it comes pretty high when you have to buy it. she made some chilly [[chili]] sauce which was very good out of the ripe ones. my chrysanthemums are in bloom but the seasons in N England are not long enough for them George Mc'garvey supplied all the neighborhood with his. he has all the colors & knows how to fix his soil to raise things his pigeons make good fertilizer for vegetables & flowers. his father was the one who worked for George Belcher & had such good vegetables & Mrs Tilden who was sister to Mrs George Belcher used to sell their vegetables.
