Stoughton October 4th 1944

Dear Doris,

It is warmer today and very sunny 70 [[degrees]] on the porch. I have just been outside and picked some of my tomatoes. thinking they will ripen in the house just as well in a warm store room as out in the cold garden patch. we had them for dinner they tasted very nice & fresh.

The frosts haven't reached us yet but never know when they will, people say we have not had our Indian summer yet so are in hopes of better days ahead. it does seem early to have many frosts.

Very little rain have we had all summer & up to now just enough to make our lawn grow green & have had it mowed just once. we were likely to have it dried up, it saved lots of needless work & money.

Mrs Barry has gone down to make bandages with Edith Rose & Richard, they hired a taxey cab as Winnie had a bad heart attack and can't drive her car nor go up & down stairs. she may go in one of these spells, if she's not careful.  Mrs Barry is going down to the beauty parlor to have her hair done after she gets through at the Red Cross rooms & I don't expect her home
