open & smelt fire but guess it must have been the soot in our old chimney. I woke several times & heard it blow & the rain coming down in such bucketsfull now we are not so much in fear of fires, as we got such a good soaking.

Around Cape Cod they got the heaviest damages. I hope none of it got in your pathway while you were on your way home & you found things all right when you reached there the old cat was only too glad to be let out of prison I surely pitied him when he left here "growling". our electric lights were off 'till sometime in the middle of the night Friday night, so we had to use candles. we were lucky just the same.  

She gets up every morning now to make the fire. she does pretty well & feels very proud of doing it. she does pretty well.

I miss you so much but feel you are much needed there & hope you get rested, you work so hard, cutting down trees is not the thing to do. you may injure yourself for life in doing such things.

We had a little mackerel for our dinner no meat but one fowl, for the rest of the week. it grows cool today the wind got into the North West during the night sometime.
