[[top margin]] Monday morning The rain has come at last good
Ma [[/top margin]]

Stoughton June 18th 1944

Dear Doris

We are having very hot weather in spite of the thunder shower that went around us last night. we got a little rain but not enough to wet down far. it says showers to day the ground needs some hard soaking rains.

Thursday I went over to George McGarveys to ask him about putting on the plants some fertilizer around my tomatoe plants & he told me how to do it. so I did it as near as he said & have now been watering them twice a day as he said. he told me he was going to give me some of his plants but looked over in the field & saw that I had some. I think him very nice. Pete is very good to me also.

Myrtie called us up to day to tell us Alice Wentworth passed away Friday noon & the funeral will be Monday at half past 1 O'clock. this was very sudden, she tried to call up before but couldn't get us on the phone. our lights went out & also the telephone during the storm. She will be buried in Evergreen cemetery. guess she has suffered more than anyone knew, both in mind
