Stoughton May 21st 1944

Dear Doris

We are having cold weather yet, with frosts in places at night. I even bring my tomato plants into the backroom off the porch where they stay during the daytime. they look more hardy from putting them where they get the out side air days but am glad I didn't have them set out in the ground during this cold spell. it hit New England pretty hard according to reports.

My first rose came this morning out under the front window. the bushes are full of buds. they will be in bloom in another week. the lilly of the valley is also in bloom a week ahead of time. they have spread all over the place every where. things go by very quickly. the scilla is out in great clumps every where it is very pretty & not very common here. its a great treat to me going around to see the different blossoms. & soon it will be time to set out my house plants & root my slips that I cut down. my plant that Myrtie brought me has grown twice its size & I transplanted it it was a red coleus different from mine they are very easy to root. I have got my geraniums to
