Dear Audrey:

My belated answer to your very charming letter was caused by my having to spend a short week at the hospital to undergo a short operation. May I add that everything turned out all right, but this is just to explain to you my silence, and also that I was so pleased to hear from you.

It was indeed a double pleasure, for as you know I always enjoy receiving your news, but also for the fact that you dissipated my fears of a possible misinterpretation by you of my opinion regarding the disposal of your collection.

In reply to your request, I am sending you under separate cover but by same mail, a catalogue of the auction I referred to, with some of the prices. For the reason given above, I was unable to attend the auction, and am therefore borrowing this catalogue - you will realize when you see the accompanying sketches that it is not mine, being no such artist- which explains why I am asking you to be good enough to return it, after perusing.

As a whole, you will find the prices rather low, which seems to confirm the opinion I expressed in my previous letter, but so bear in mind that the paintings, which I just had an opportunity of looking at before going to the hospital, were certainly not particularly alluring.

I do trust these lines will reach you before the holiday season, and with my very best wishes in which Ethlyne joins, for all the Oslers and Stewarts.

With kindest thoughts,

Yours,

(Germain Seligman)
