My dear Countess Pourtalès,

Your very nice letter of January 31st with its enclosure of photographs has just reached me and I hasten to thank you for having been os prompt in following up our conversation.

As per your request, I am returning these documents herein.

The Greek marble "Stèle funéraire" - as lovely as it looks is unfortunately beyond my knowledge and province of business activities.

As to the two bronzes, they could well be of interest to me indeed. However, may I call your attention to the fact that you did not indicate their dimensions. If I recall correctly, you remembered them as being very tall and I do hope this is the case. But even were they smaller, I would like very much to see them, if possible.

It was also your intention, I believe, to ask Dr. Weihrauch's opinion as to their nationality, and their period. Also the names of the artists, should he have any suggestion in this respect.

The photographs of course do not reveal enough to me to settle these points to my satisfaction, in fact, I am wondering whether they could not be German instead of Italian, but this is almost guessing, and furthermore of no importance as long as we can have Dr. Weihrauch's conclusion.

It is my understanding that you will have first to communicate with one of your relatives in America and I shall be much looking forward to hearing further from you...whether these bronzes could be seen if they are available for purchase...also their sizes...and about Dr. Weihrauch's opinion.

You will notice that I am not mentioning the question of price for it would be premature - to say the least, in view of these special circumstances.

Before closing, let me say again how much I appreciated your and Count Pourtales' visit, for it was a pleasure indeed to have had thus the opportunity of meeting you both.

With personal greetings,

Sincerely yours,

Germain Seligman
